Alpha Gal and MCAS Treatment
Alpha-Gal Syndrome, MCAS, and Allergy Relief
Soliman’s Auricular Acupuncture Technique (SAAT)
At Soma Health Center, we support people living with Alpha-Gal Syndrome (AGS) — the tick-triggered allergy to red meat, dairy, and other mammalian products that can cause unpredictable and sometimes severe reactions. We also see many patients with Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) and other chronic allergies who are seeking additional relief. Soliman’s Auricular Acupuncture Technique (SAAT) offers a gentle, targeted complementary approach that many choose to help calm hypersensitivity and reduce reaction intensity when used alongside conventional medical care.
Developed by Dr. Nader Soliman, SAAT is a specialized form of ear (auricular) acupuncture designed specifically for allergies. It focuses on precise points in the ear to help retrain the body’s neurological response to specific triggers like the alpha-gal sugar molecule or mast cell overactivity.
How SAAT Works for Alpha-Gal Syndrome, MCAS & Allergies
SAAT uses a highly focused, minimally invasive protocol:
- A single very fine, sterile needle (or small number of needles) is placed at specific points in the ear after careful assessment and muscle testing.
- The needle typically stays in place for 3–4 weeks, protected by a small bandage.
- It aims to down-regulate the immune and nervous system’s overreaction to alpha-gal (in AGS) or to histamine/mast cell triggers (in MCAS and other allergies).
For Alpha-Gal Syndrome, many patients report being able to reintroduce previously avoided foods with far fewer or no reactions. In a 2021 case series of 137 patients, 96% of those with follow-up data experienced remission of symptoms after SAAT treatment, with no adverse reactions noted. Read the full case series on SAAT for Alpha-Gal Syndrome here.
For MCAS and broader allergies, SAAT is used clinically to help stabilize mast cell responses, lower histamine-related flares, and reduce sensitivity to environmental or food triggers. Practitioners often combine it with other supportive care because it addresses the neurological component of hypersensitivity that standard treatments may not fully reach.

What to Expect from Treatment
The process is straightforward and comfortable:
- We begin with a detailed history of your triggers, symptoms, and reactions (whether AGS, MCAS, or other allergies).
- Treatment usually involves one or two small needles in the ear — most people feel little to no discomfort.
- Many need only a single session per allergen or trigger set, though some benefit from a short series depending on severity and response.
Patients frequently describe reduced anxiety around food or triggers, fewer flares, and a greater sense of freedom in daily life.

A Complementary Approach
SAAT is intended to work conjunctively with your primary medical care. It does not replace strict avoidance during healing, epinephrine for severe reactions, mast cell stabilizers, antihistamines, or guidance from your allergist or physician. We always coordinate respectfully with your healthcare team and encourage ongoing symptom monitoring.
